Laffing Horse Crafts

Handcrafted goodness from the Ozarks

Everyone knows by now – or at least anyone who’s read my blog knows – that we’re in the process of making a move to Arkansas.

This after we had just returned from Louisiana and the Louisiana Renaissance Festival where we had endured some relatively cold temperatures, rain and some really hot temperatures… at least for us.

So, there we were, on the way home, and I say “I’d like to see it snow just one more time.”

Now, I’m nursing sore shoulders and back after having spent a better part of yesterday and last night wading through thigh-deep snow and taking care of the animals and shoveling after getting a whopping 2 feet of snow.

Wow!

If you’ve been keeping up with my blog posts – I know that it is a challenge, what with posts coming in a flurry, then a month or two passing before another flurry – you know that we’re moving to a piece of undeveloped land in Arkansas.

That means we have a lot of sorting and packing to do.

That means we have to say goodbye to a lot of things we don’t want to move.

That means that the property we have here is going up for sale.

I thought about it yesterday or the day before… bear with me as I digress…
My parents moved a bit. We lived in at least two locations that I know of in Albuquerque, NM before moving to Colorado. Once in Colorado we lived in at least three locations in Hayden, that I can remember, before moving to Milner. From Milner to Craig.
I moved a bit, too. I graduated in Craig and moved out on my own and had three apartments there before moving to Denver, then Chicago, then Craig, then, the Salt Lake City, then Albuquerque, then El Paso, then New Jersey, then Colorado Springs/Manitou Springs – at least 8 apartments or houses there. Then Craig, again. Then Rocky Ford – only four houses in and around Rocky Ford / La Junta.
Long and short… I’ve lived in this house that we’re now selling, longer than I’ve lived anywhere in my life.
I laugh at myself! How maudlin. But it’s not just maudlin. My first move consisted of a box of kitchen implements, a suitcase, a box of books, a box of cassette tapes, a case of soda and a carton of cigarettes. Now, I’m thinking that it’ll take a semi truck load or two…

I did warn you that I was about to digress, didn’t I?

If you might be interested in this property – it’s actually kinda pretty – you can contact our realtor, Rethabel Huff at rethabel@centurytel.net or 719-254-3150.

What’s that? You want details? About 16 acres, mostly fenced; a 3+/- bedroom, 1 bath, dining room, great room, kitchen home; a real nice metal shop building about 30′x50′; a 48′ quonset hut, 4 additional outbuildings; close to three towns (Swink, La Junta and Rocky Ford); all utilities, including an association water tap; lots of trees.

Can ya believe it!?!

We’re home! Kiss the ground, hug a tree and then run inside ’cause it’s cold up here!!!

For those of you just tuning in, we’ve spent the last two months travelling between Colorado, Arkansas, Louisiana and back. One week was spent in Bella Vista Arkansas for the Bella Vista Arts and Crafts Festival and seven weeks were spent in Hammond, Louisiana for the Louisiana Renaissance Festival (actually, it was a six week show and a week spent building our ‘booth’). And a week on the road.

Some clever person out there is going to point out that 1 week plus 6 weeks plus 1 week plus 1 week equals 10 weeks which is more than 2 months. I don’t know how we did it either, but it WAS two weeks! We left October 15 and returned on December 15. Must have been all the time flipping… we gained an hour going there and then gained an our when the clocks fell back and then lost an hour coming bac… I know that only accounts for an hour gained, but hey… I’m grasping at straws here…

I’m happy to say that the¬† road trip was a success. Mostly. But more on that another time….
So what are we going to do now? Same thing we were doing before… building looms, carving crochet hooks and knitting needles, teaching spinning and weaving, and moving to Arkansas.

Crazy ain’t it?

This upcoming weekend, though, we’re having a gathering of all our friends (at least those we could email or telephone… there’s some folks we care a great deal about but don’t know how to reliably contact them [Johnathon... you out there]). The plan is, no Christmas presents! Come and take a look at what we’ve got that we don’t want to move and take it home with you. If you don’t it’ll go at auction and then how will you remember us when we’re gone.

I’ll let everyone know what’s left :-)
