You may know that we’re a part of the Off The Beaten Path Studio Tour. This is a free, self guided tour of more than 25 artisans’ studios within 30 miles of Mountain View’s Historic Courthouse Square.
You may also know that, as we’re in Meadowcreek, we’re really off the beaten path.
Still, we had more than 200 people brave the roads and the weather – the aftermath of Hurricane Ike, which included power outages and blown down trees and a lot of rain creating flood conditions – come to visit and talk.
As if those souls were not intrepid enough, around 50 people came to visit the Ozark Folk Center for our free gallery walk on Saturday night. They braved rain and tornado sirens to see the Ozark Folk Center’s artisans at work. Of course, the sirens cut the visit a bit short.
For me, the weekend consisted of a flurry of setting up on Thursday and Friday morning (with a lot of help from my in-laws who had come top visit in the days leading up to Thursday and Friday), talking with people and demonstrating my craft (in this case, woodworking and woodturning and spinning and pointing them to Jeanette’s weaving and Elena’s dyeing), traveling to town on Friday evening for a reception at Citizen’s Bank (wonderfully catered by our neighbor Maureen), more of the same on Saturday, including a trip to town for the gallery walk at the Ozark Folk Center, and cutting and splitting a rick of firewood on Sunday (I had no power and could display or demonstrate nothing) while Jeanette and our neighbors Sage and Tom Holland (who are world-class glass beadmakers) spoke to people about their works.
What a weekend!
Don't have a need for a broom, crochet hook or triloom, but you still appreciate what I'm doing here? How about buying me a cup of coffee?Popularity: 2% [?]
