This is a nicely fanned out Turkey Wing broom bound with strong, durable, yet fine nylon twine. As I approached the top of the broom… the end of the binding. At that point, I switched by way of a secure splice, to a yellow twine which I used to plait (the woven handle) over purple hand-dyed basket reed.I usually use wire to bind brooms. I prefer 17 gauge galvanized steel. It’s actually very sturdy electric fencing wire! Regular broom wire is a bit smaller and is and has a tendency, in my experience, to flake and rust, and is not available locally as the other wire is. At the top of the broom, when using the wire, I twist the ends of the wire together and form the twist into a staple. It is to that staple that I attach the twine when plaiting.
This time, however, I had this purple twine and I thought it looked kinda nice against the yellow of the broomcorn. Then, I thought it would be fun to create a contrast between everything. Hence the yellow twine over the purple reed.
Great as a small hearth broom or a large whisk or as a unique decoration. Functional, traditional, beautiful!

Check out the complete (kind of) gallery of brooms. Don't have a need for a broom, crochet hook or triloom, but you still appreciate what I'm doing here? How about buying me a cup of coffee?
