Cake Tester Broom

I remember my grandmother baking cakes and plucking a broomstraw from the old kitchen broom to poke the cake. She used the “clean” end, but still I wondered. She poked the cake and if the straw came out with some batter stuck to it, or if it was even sticky, the cake stayed in the oven. If the straw came out clean, the cake was ready.

I make these cake tester brooms out of clean bristle trimmed from other brooms, so they really are clean!

Longer than toothpicks, these are great for testing cakes and cornbreads or just adding a bit of rustic charm to your kitchen.
